J. Myles Hesse is a scholar, author, playwright and theater artist. His research centers on representations of dysfluency and stammering in nineteenth-century literature and drama. His work also explores how ideas of "unspeakableness" intersect with queerness and the Gothic.

Alongside his academic research, Myles is active in theater as a playwright, director, dramaturg, and stage manager. His plays have been produced by festivals and universities across the country, winning recognition from the A. E. Hotchner Playwrighting Festival, Triangle Rainbow Theatre, and Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis.

As both a gay man and a stutterer, he strongly believes in the #OwnVoices movement and champions the power of storytelling to amplify voices that have too often been silenced.
